upper fagu estate 2nd flush darjeeling ftgfop
dry leaf is peppered with bits of green, tan and browns tightly rolled. beautiful for a bop. the wet leaf unrolls and is medium to dark greens and browns.
the aroma is of flowers with a hint of fresh earth. the taste is very brisk and assertive. the body is medium with an aftertaste that lingers with an amazing dryness. there is a bite of a vegetal quality. a very good darjeeling.
the tea is a wonderful chinese oolong from seven cups
huang zhi xiang (yellow sprig)
3rd infusion, just more than a table spoon of leaves, water boiling, 3 mins
dry leaf is dark, dark green and rolled, perpendicular to the stem, into slender beautiful tendrils which are on average two inches long. the smell reminds me of spring. the wet leaf is a beautiful mid range green as the leaves open up. the liquor is a beautiful pale gold.
the smell is of ripening fruit, figs and floral. the most amazing of all the teas i drink is the smell of this one. while the taste is a bit of almond and earthy. an amazing soft and clear profile.
generally i drink this alone without any sweets as it is so complex and amazing on it's own, i don't want to confuse the issue.
very close to the best tea i have ever had. too bad it was the last of it.
the tea is a chinese black tea from upton tea imports.
yunnan (dao ming)
first infusion, 1-tsp, water boiling, 5 mins
dry leaf is fine and peppered with golden leafs. the wet leaf is brown gold and nice size for a broken whole leaf. the liqour is dark burgandy...very dark.
the smell is a mix of fireplace, toffee and bark. i feel a fire when i drink this tea and it stimulates my appetite. there is a smooth caramel character to this tea which i have always loved. hints of dried fruit are there if i wait.
this tea was perhaps my first favorite and remains a standard in my kitchen since i my first taste. it is better in the afternoon or after dinner. and goes very well with zucchini muffins or chocolate cream biscuits.
anybody else notice how soothing and comforting noam chomsky's voice is?
first infusion~half a tablespoon for 6 ounces of water infusion for 2 minutes.
deep, dark almost black color - can not see to the bottom of the cup of tea. smell of wet bark and moss. taste of stone and metal. smooth and penetrating. very good, most likely one of my absolute favorites. as somebody once pointed out, this tea does seem to be more drinkable the later in the day it is.
i am an graduate art student in the middle of my master of fine arts at a particularly anemic program which is an adventure in patience and impotence. i am a painting student who does no painting....my bfa is in printmaking with a minor in philosophy. the aims and purposes of this site are a bit simple and pointless - show some of my work, and discuss a few of my interests.
